The short answer: No. Per the BACB RBT Handbook (updated 06/2026), the RBT examination is only offered in English. There is no Spanish version, no interpreters are allowed, and exam accommodations cover disabilities, not language. If Spanish is your first language, the good news is that you can prepare bilingually and walk into the exam confident.
What the official document says
The RBT Handbook from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, updated June 2026, states it plainly: "The RBT examination is only offered in English." This is not a temporary policy or something that depends on which testing center you visit. It is the official rule for every candidate, at every Pearson VUE center.
This matters because some websites say otherwise. A few claim the exam "is available in English and Spanish," but that is not true. When sources conflict, the one that counts is the official document, and the official document is clear.

Can I bring an interpreter?
No. The BACB does not allow interpreters during the RBT exam. You walk into the Pearson VUE testing room, sit down at the computer, and all 85 questions appear in English. Nobody can translate the questions or explain the terms to you during the exam.
Can I request an accommodation for language?
No. Exam accommodations (extra time, alternate formats, and similar) exist for candidates with documented disabilities. English proficiency does not qualify as a disability, so you cannot request an accommodation just because English is not your first language.
How to study bilingually (the method that actually works)
The trap is studying only in Spanish and hoping the exam's English "will just make sense." It does not work that way. The exam uses specific technical terms (reinforcement, extinction, prompting, fading) that you need to recognize instantly, without mentally translating. The strategy that works:
- Read every question stem in English, exactly as it will appear on exam day. Get used to English question stems from day one of studying.
- Learn the concept with explanations in Spanish. If you do not understand why an answer is correct, an explanation in your own language clears it up without confusion.
- Memorize the key terms in English. The answer choices use the official English terminology. A bilingual glossary connects each term to its meaning.
- Practice against the clock. Reading in a second language takes longer at first. Timed mock exams teach you to handle the real pace: 85 questions in 90 minutes.
What you can do on exam day
- Arrive early at the Pearson VUE center with valid ID.
- Read each question carefully. You get about 63 seconds per question on average.
- Flag the hard questions and come back to them. Do not leave any blank.
- Trust your bilingual preparation. If you studied the terms in English, you will recognize them.
