RBT Practice Set: 25 Questions on the 2026 Outline

Twenty-five exam-style questions across all six domains of the BACB 3rd edition Test Content Outline, with instant feedback and full explanations after every answer.

The short answer: this free RBT practice set gives you 25 multiple-choice questions in the style of the real exam, mapped to the BACB 3rd edition Test Content Outline that took effect January 1, 2026. Answer each question, read the explanation, then check your score and your per-domain results at the end. A printable PDF of the full set is linked below the quiz.

Why a 25-question practice set works

Big question banks are great, but they can also be paralyzing. A 1000-question bank is a library; a 25-question set is a workout. Twenty-five questions is long enough to touch every domain on the RBT exam and short enough to finish in one focused sitting, about 20 minutes if you work at real exam pace. That makes it the perfect daily rep: small enough that you actually do it, big enough that it tells you something real about where you stand.

Repetition with feedback is how the RBT exam is really passed. Reading notes feels productive, but the exam does not ask you to recite definitions. It gives you a scenario, like a client who just escalated, a supervisor who gave feedback, or a session note that needs a second look, and asks you what to do next. The only way to get good at those questions is to do lots of them, miss some, and read why. Every question below explains the correct answer and why the wrong answers are wrong, so each miss becomes a lesson instead of just a lost point.

This set is also mapped to the current exam. The BACB retired the 2nd edition RBT Task List on January 1, 2026, and the exam now follows the 3rd edition Test Content Outline. Older practice questions can drill outdated domain names, old weights, and ethics rules from the retired code. These 25 questions are built for the outline you will actually be tested on, so your study time points at the right target.

How to use this practice set

  1. Answer honestly, like it is test day. Do not peek at the explanation before you commit to an answer. The point is to test your thinking, not to collect a perfect score.
  2. Read every explanation, even for questions you got right. The explanations cover why the wrong answers are wrong, which is where the exam traps live. A right answer for the wrong reason is a question you will miss next time.
  3. Watch your streak and your domain scores. The quiz tracks your streak as you answer and breaks down your accuracy by domain at the end. If one domain keeps sinking your score, that is your study assignment for tomorrow.
  4. Download the PDF for offline reps. The printable version has all 25 questions with an answer key, which is handy for studying with a partner or for a no-screen review session.

Quick refresher: the 2026 RBT exam format

Here is what the real exam looks like, straight from the BACB RBT Handbook: 85 multiple-choice questions, 75 scored and 10 unscored pilot questions, with 90 minutes on the clock at a Pearson VUE testing center. You cannot tell the scored questions from the pilots, so every question counts. The exam is only offered in English, and results are reported as pass or fail at the testing center. The BACB does not publish a percentage cut score, so ignore the rumors and focus on covering the whole outline.

Before you can sit for the exam, you need to complete the 40-hour training, pass the Initial Competency Assessment with a qualified supervisor, and meet the rest of the eligibility requirements in the handbook. The practice below assumes you have that foundation. If you are still picking a training provider, start with our 40-hour training guide before you spend much time on practice questions.

The six domains covered in this set

The 3rd edition outline divides the 75 scored questions across six domains with published approximate weights. This practice set includes questions from all six, so your results map to the real blueprint:

You can read the official domain list on the BACB RBT page, which also links the current ethics code. When in doubt, the BACB documents win every argument.

How to read your score

Your score at the end is a snapshot, not a verdict. Aim for 80% or better on fresh practice material across several sets before you book the exam, because one good set can be luck. What matters more than the number is the pattern: if your misses cluster in one or two domains, those domains are your study plan for the next week. Retake this set after a few days of targeted review and watch the weak domains climb.

A note on memorization: getting all 25 right on a retake feels great, but it can also mean you remembered the answers. The real exam will test the same concepts with scenarios you have never seen. If you ace a retake, prove it by scoring well on fresh questions too.

Frequently asked questions

Are these practice questions like the real RBT exam?

They follow the same style and difficulty as the real exam: scenario-based multiple choice with four options and one best answer, mapped to the BACB 3rd edition Test Content Outline. The real exam has 85 questions and a 90-minute limit at Pearson VUE, so treat this 25-question set as a focused drill, not a full simulation. A full timed exam is the best final check before test day.

What score should I get on a practice set before I book the exam?

Aim for 80% or higher on fresh 3rd-edition practice material across several sets, not just one. A single good score can be luck; consistent scores in the 80s and 90s across different question sets mean the knowledge is actually yours. If one domain keeps dragging your score down, restudy that domain before you book.

How is this practice set different from the free practice test?

This set is a quick 25-question drill you can finish in about 20 minutes, with instant feedback and explanations after every question. The full practice test is longer and closer to real exam conditions. Use short sets like this one for daily reps, and save the full test for weekly check-ins.

Should I retake the same 25 questions, or find new ones?

Both. Retake this set after a few days to check whether you actually fixed your weak spots, not whether you remembered the answers. Then move on to fresh questions, because the real exam will test concepts with scenarios you have never seen. Recognizing the idea matters more than recognizing the question.

Why does the 3rd edition outline matter for practice questions?

Effective January 1, 2026, the BACB moved the RBT exam from the 2nd edition Task List to the 3rd edition Test Content Outline. Domain names, weights, and some tasks changed. Practice questions written for the old task list can drill you on outdated terms and the wrong emphasis, so only use questions mapped to the current outline.

Where can I take a full 85-question timed practice exam?

Our free practice test and the full 1000-question bank both run timed simulations mapped to the 3rd edition domains. Start with the free practice test, then unlock the full bank when you want more exam-day rehearsals and detailed answer tracking.
